Our story so far

Chapter 3

Twenty years ago, Renewal Presbyterian Church was planted in West Philadelphia as the English Ministry of a Korean immigrant church. In the first 10 years, founding members gave generously with the hope of purchasing a building. After the purchase of the building, the following 10 years included a campaign that allowed for the renovation of the annex.

By God's grace, as Renewal enters its third decade, it continues to grow, and we as a congregation are called to steward our building for the blessing of our neighborhood. As we celebrate God's faithfulness, we face urgent building repairs, hastened by recent storm damage. While these repairs are essential, the vision extends beyond maintaining a building: it is to create a welcoming space where neighbors gather, share meals, build relationships across cultures, and experience the love of Christ.

This campaign will help us renew our building and create new opportunities for hospitality, community, and mission.

What we'll build

Dreams we set down, and are ready to pick up again

When Renewal was planted and this building was purchased, there was great excitement and many dreams. Founding members gave generously, and we are still benefiting from their sacrifices made many years ago. We believe now is the time to renew those dreams and implement some projects that have been dormant.

1

Sanctuary heating

Completing the heating so our sanctuary is warm and welcoming all year.

2

renovated kitchen

For congregational meals and community events where our neighbors are welcome at the table.

3

finished basement

A gathering space to host community events and launch neighborhood ministries.

Our vision

A third space for West Philadelphia

Through this capital campaign, we hope to make Renewal a true third space for our neighborhood: a place for everyone, not just church members, to gather, connect, and explore faith. Rooted in our Korean immigrant church heritage and growing into an intercultural congregation, we trust God to lead us in becoming a missional church in West Philadelphia.

A kitchen, gathering space, and open doors are not ends in themselves, but means of fulfilling our calling to welcome our neighbors into life with Jesus and his people. We envision Renewal as a true gathering place for our neighborhood, where people of diverse cultures can connect, build friendships, and explore faith.

By opening our doors wider, we hope to invite our neighbors into life with Jesus and his people, fulfilling our calling to serve and bless West Philadelphia.
